Prof Dr Karl-Nikolaus Peifer

After an apprenticeship at a bank and studies of Laws, Romance Philology and American Studies as well as Economics at the universities of Trier, Bonn, Duisburg, Hamburg and Kiel, Prof. Dr. Karl-Nikolaus Peifer got a PhD in 1994 at the University of Bielefeld with a dissertation dealing with legal comparisons, copyright and broadcasting law. He got at scholarship in the Italian Department of the Max-Planck-Institute for Foreign and International Patent Law, Copyright and Competition Law (today: MPI for Intellectual Property Law, Competition Law and Tax Law). After research visits to Rome, Milano and Florence, he worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute for European and International Private and Procedural Law at the Christian-Albrecht-University of Kiel.
In May 2000 he habilitated by the Faculty of Laws at the University of Kiel with an interdisciplinary treatise comprising legal comparisons within personality law, intellectual property law, competition law and company law. He started a Deputy Professorship at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, in the following year he became professor for Civil Law and European Economic Law, especially Intellectual Property Law and Media Law, Legal comparison at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).
2002 he held courses at Ruhr-University Bochum. Winter term 2002 to summer term 2004 he was Holder of the Chair for German and European Trade and Economic Law, Intellectual Property and Media Law, Legal Comparison at Ruhr-University Bochum. He declined a call to Julius-Maximilian-University Würzburg.
Since 2004 he is Holder of the Chair for Civil Law with Copyright Law, Industrial Property Protection, New Media and Economic Law at the University of Cologne.
